History of St. Joachim’s

St. Joachim’s is located on Church Road in the center of Eel Ground First Nation and has been a Mission Church of St. Mary’s since March 16, 1915, when it was transferred to St. Mary’s Parish from the “Mission of Red Bank” by Rev. Thomas Barry, Bishop of Chatham.

This church had been built the previous year (1914) by Thomas Power, the building contractor for the first St. Mary’s Church which was opened for worship in June 1875. St. Joachim’s replaced the original church, St. Anne’s, built in 1872.
